Halloween pub event ideas: for families, for adults, and for next year
Halloween 2026 is a Saturday. Here are pub event ideas that work, from a kids disco to an adults' fancy dress night, plus decorations on a budget, the safety and ID points to watch, and a plan to start earlier next year.

Halloween 2026 is on a Saturday, which makes it one of the better Halloweens for a pub. Families can do a daytime or early evening event without a school night to worry about, and adults can make a night of it after.
If you're reading this the week before, there's still time for a simple plan. If you're reading it next September, even better: you've got time to do it properly.
Two audiences, two events
Halloween works best in a pub when you treat it as two different things.
- Families, late afternoon to early evening. Kids in costumes, parents who want a drink and somewhere warm.
- Adults, later on. Fancy dress, music, a themed quiz, a party.
Trying to do both at once usually means the kids are tired and the adults are waiting. Split them, with a clear time when the family part ends.
Ideas for families
A kids Halloween disco
This is what we do at our place in Washington. A kids Halloween disco is simple: some lights, a playlist, a costume parade, and a prize for the best outfit. It gets families in early and gives parents a reason to stay for food.
Keep it short, keep the music suitable, and keep it in one room or area so you can see what's going on.
A Halloween pit stop
We're running a Halloween pit stop too. If trick-or-treaters pass your door, think about how you can be part of their night out, so families know your pub is a friendly place to call in.
Costume parade and prizes
A parade round the pub, with every child getting a small treat and a prize for the best few. Let the customers vote with a show of hands. Everyone loves it, and it fills your social pages for the week.
Food that suits the night
Pumpkin soup, "witches' fingers" (hot dogs), a spooky pudding. One or two specials are plenty. Have something quick for kids, because they'll be hungry and impatient.
Check your licence for children
GOV.UK says whether under-16s can come into a pub with an adult "can depend on the specific conditions of the premises". Read your premises licence before you advertise a kids event, especially if it runs into the evening.
Ideas for adults
A fancy dress night
Fancy dress gets people out who wouldn't come for a normal Saturday. Give a prize for the best costume, and make it worth winning, like a bar tab for the group.
A Halloween quiz round
A themed round of horror films, ghost stories and famous monsters. Our pub quiz round ideas post has formats that work for themed nights.
Music bingo
Spooky songs, a bingo card of artists, a prize for a line and a full house. If you play recorded music, check you're covered by TheMusicLicence. Our post on music bingo for pubs explains how to run it.
Themed drinks
One or two themed drinks with a silly name are enough. Keep them easy to make so the bar doesn't slow down.
Decorations on a budget
You don't need to spend much.
- Cobwebs, bunting and a few skeletons go a long way.
- Pick one corner and do it properly, rather than spreading a few bits everywhere. People take photos of the corner.
- Use battery candles, not real ones.
- Keep fire exits, walkways and signs clear of decorations.
- Ask staff to dress up if they're happy to. It sets the mood straight away.
Safety and ID: the bits that matter
Halloween brings a couple of extra risks, and solicitors at TLT flag them in their guide to pub events.
- Costumes and make-up make ID harder. TLT points out "the anonymity provided by costumes and make-up". Remind staff to check ID properly, even if someone's dressed as a vampire.
- Ticketing helps. TLT suggests tickets to control numbers, which also makes staffing easier.
- CCTV. Check it's working before the night.
- Busy nights. Plan what you'll do if someone has had too much, feels unsafe or says their drink was spiked. Schemes like Ask for Angela help.
Plan earlier next year
The pubs that do Halloween best start in September.
- Early September: pick the date and the events. Write them in the diary.
- Mid September: put a countdown on your screens and a poster up.
- Late September: open bookings or tickets for the adult night.
- October: post every week with what's on, and photos of the decorations going up.
- The week after: post the photos and the winners, then start on Bonfire Night.
Our 2027 events calendar has Halloween and every other date to plan around.
How StockTap TV helps
At Teal Farm, the TVs carry our own offers and events on a timed loop, so the kids disco goes up on the days before and the adults' night shows in the evenings. Countdowns to events like a Halloween party are live at Teal Farm and coming to founding pubs. Customers can also send shout-outs and photos, which only go on screen after we approve them. See what's in it, or join the founding pubs.
Frequently asked questions
What day is Halloween in 2026?
Saturday 31 October.
What's a good Halloween event for a pub?
A kids disco or costume parade in the late afternoon, then a fancy dress night or themed quiz for adults later. Keep them separate, with a clear end time for the family part.
Can children come to a Halloween event in a pub?
It depends on your premises licence. GOV.UK says it "can depend on the specific conditions of the premises". Check yours before you advertise.
Do I need a music licence for a Halloween disco?
If you play recorded music to customers, you usually need TheMusicLicence from PPL PRS. Check your licence covers it.
