MarginEdge is a US-built restaurant back-office platform — invoice processing, food cost tracking, bill pay — and it’s genuinely well-regarded in that market. But if you’re a UK pub licensee looking at it, the pricing needs translating properly, both in currency and in what it assumes about your operation.
What MarginEdge actually costs (live pricing, 31 July 2026)
Straight from marginedge.com/pricing:
- Base plan: $350/location/month — roughly £275/month at current exchange rates, though you’d be billed in dollars, so your actual cost floats with FX movement month to month.
- MarginEdge + Freepour bundle: $500/location/month (~£393/month) — this adds smart-scale-based inventory counting.
- Annual billing discount: 10% off either plan, but this comes with a 12-month commitment — cancel early and the remaining year’s balance is due.
- Monthly billing has no lock-in and can be cancelled anytime, but you pay full rate with no discount.
- Toast POS users pay an extra $50/location/month for Toast’s own “Restaurant Management Suite” subscription, which is required to enable the API integration MarginEdge needs to pull sales data. This is a fee to Toast, not MarginEdge, but it’s a real added cost of running the two together.
- Freepour hardware: if the smart scales aren’t returned at the end of a contract, there’s a $500 fee.
Add it up for a single pub on the Freepour bundle with Toast: $550/month (~£432), before VAT, before any staff training time, before currency conversion risk.
Why the dollar pricing matters more than it looks
A US SaaS quote in dollars isn’t just a currency-conversion inconvenience for a UK operator — it means your actual monthly cost moves with GBP/USD, your invoice may show in USD needing manual conversion for your accounts, and there’s no UK entity, UK support hours, or UK VAT handling built in as standard. None of that makes MarginEdge a bad product — its invoice-processing engine is well-reviewed — but it’s a genuinely different proposition for a UK pub than for a US restaurant group, and the sticker price needs a mental (or literal) 15–20% buffer for FX volatility alone.
What this actually means for a single UK pub
At £275–£432/month depending on tier, MarginEdge sits well above what most single-site UK pubs spend on stock and invoice software — and that’s before the Toast surcharge if that’s your POS. For a group with five or more sites doing serious invoice-processing volume, the maths can work. For a single pub trying to get accurate stock control and cut food/drink waste, it’s a lot of software (and a lot of dollars) for the job.

How to compare properly before switching
- Get the FX-adjusted monthly cost in writing, not just the headline dollar figure — ask your bookkeeper to model it against a 12-month GBP/USD range, not today’s spot rate.
- Check your POS integration cost separately. If you’re on Toast, add the $50/location/month before you compare totals.
- Decide monthly vs annual with your actual cash flow in mind — the 10% annual discount isn’t worth much if a 12-month lock-in strains your working capital in a slow winter quarter.
- Compare against UK-priced alternatives — stocktaking and food-cost tools built for single-site pubs. See our full breakdown at Pub Stocktaking Software Compared and Pub Stocktaking Software Cost 2026.
